Bill Hauritz is the principal creator and organiser of the Woodford Folk Festival. In 1985 Bill re-constituted the Queensland Folk Federation, with the goal of establishing a festival of international standing, with its principal strategy to fire up the folk movement in Queensland. In 2004 he was awarded the prestigious Queensland Smithsonian Fellowship and in 2007 he received the Myer Foundation Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Performing Arts. The Festival today is a $10M enterprise attracting a huge audience from around Australia and overseas. The organisation is developing its 500-acre property at Woodford into an arts and culture parkland.
