Big Sound 2006

Music industry icon Seymour Stein will be just one of the music industry heavyweights heading to Brisbane this October for the 2006 BIG SOUND Music Industry Conference.

To be staged around Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley from October 18-20, BIG SOUND is an initiative of Q Music and will be one the most important events of its type held in the country this year.

Now in its fifth year, BIG SOUND has mirrored Queensland’s growth as a music hotspot and will feature three days of seminars, workshops, discussions and meetings aimed at both emerging artists and industry workers, and those looking to take their music to the world.

The growth of BIG SOUND as a major industry event has been demonstrated by the calibre of the first round of speakers announced today. They are:

SEYMOUR STEIN – Sire Records/Warner Music, Vice President (USA)
Regarded as nothing less than a music industry icon, Seymour Stein’s entrepreneurial career spans five decades. He is the former president of Sire Records -- the label under which he signed pioneer artists such as The Ramones, Madonna, and Talking Heads -- and vice president of Warner Bros. Records. He is currently reviving his old independent label, Sire, after two years as president of Elektra Records. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.

MILLER LONDON – Urban Network, President (USA)
Miller is the President of Urban Network the leading urban music industry publication in the USA. In addition, Miller also runs “Power Jam”, the largest and most influential urban/hip-hop music industry conference in North America. Miller is an expert on the urban music and media market.

RAY FARRELL – eMusic, VP Content Acquisition (USA)
eMusic is the world’s largest retailer of independent music and the world’s second-largest digital music retailer overall, offering more than 1.4 million tracks from more than 4,000 independent labels spanning every genre of music. A subscription-based service that allows consumers to own, not rent their music, eMusic is the largest service to sell tracks in the popular MP3 format. eMusic targets and successfully direct-markets to consumers who are interested in music outside the commercial mainstream, dramatically expanding the sale of catalogue typically known as "the long tail."

DICKSON DEE – Noise Asia, Founder (Hong Kong/China)
Dickson Dee is China's preeminent consultant and booking agent for contemporary experimental and electronic music. Over the past decade he has been responsible for countless tours for artists as diverse as post-jazz icon John Zorn, to Japan's turntable player Otomo Yoshihide. A performer and head of the Noise Asia label, Dickson is one of the key figures in the emerging music scene in China and Hong Kong.
