The Queensland Music Awards, undertook a facelift this year and we are thrilled with the support that we received from applicants, judges, sponsors, finalists, winners and attendees on the night. Q Music and Virgin Australia honoured for the HOME Indigenous music project

A unique initiative to promote Indigenous music artists around the nation and the world has been honored at the Queensland round of the Australian Business Arts Foundation (AbaF) Awards. Q Music and airline Virgin Australia have collected the State AbaF ‘Partnership Award’ for the successful series of HOME compilation CDs. Produced over the past three years, the compilation releases have showcased the finest Queensland and Australian indigenous music artists to a growing global audience.

BIGSOUND Live Sells Out

Virgin Australia and AMIN announce breakthrough deal for touring artists

Touring just became a lot easier for touring artists with airline Virgin Australia announcing a new initiative aimed at addressing the ongoing problems musicians face when travelling with musical equipment. After discussions led by national body The Australian Music Industry Network (AMIN), Virgin Australia have made an offer exclusively to the music industry that includes a baggage allowance of 32kg (across three pieces of checked baggage) for individual artists – with an additional 32kg able to be purchased in advance for just $15. Bands will also now be able to ‘pool’ their baggage allowance across their travelling group.

BIGSOUND Live Kicks Off Tonight

BIGSOUND Unveils Full 2011 Program & Lineup

BIGSOUND is proud to unveil its full program, announcing FIFTY-FIVE new speakers and the entire EIGHTY bands descending on Brisbane for BIGSOUND LIVE. Heading the new announcement is founding member of US indie heroes Pavement, Spiral Stairs who joins Boy & Bear’s Jon Hart in a program which celebrates the artist and their role in the industry.

The industry list is bolstered by the inimitable Michael Chugg and Bluesfest director Peter Noble as well as label representatives Beggars Group’s Simon Wheeler (US) and Arts & Crafts CEO Jeffrey Remedios (Canada). BIGSOUND favourites Seymour Stein from Sire Records/Warner Brothers US and Shin Fukuzumi from Japan’s P-Vine will also make a welcome return to help us celebrate ten years.

There are positions available working in areas such as the registration desk, panels/ushers, wristband exchange, stage management and production. Volunteers will have the opportunity to be a part of one of the most exciting music industry events on the Australian calendar, with the chance to network and be with other like minded, motivated and wonderful people such as yourselves…On top of all the warm gooey feelings all our volunteers will receive a wristband to the BIGSOUND live showcases on the Wed and Thurs nights and an awesome BIGSOUND T-shirt!

Australia’s biggest celebration of breaking artists and industry networking launched its tenth year in style, with a stellar first announcement of speakers unveiled Thursday night at Sydney’s Raval as tickets went on sale. Brisbane became the focus of the music world last week when the largest ever BIGSOUND 2010 music industry conference and festival took over the city’s musical heart, Fortitude Valley. Held from Wednesday to Friday, BIGSOUND 2010 saw more than 540 delegates descend on the conference – up by more than 100 on the previous year.
