The whole world is online! Whether you're typing essays for eager fans or 140 character pearls of wisdom, online publishing is quickly becoming the new bastion of communication and online journalism. What is Twitter and why would you use it? How do you start a blog and why would you? Is this online thing just a waste of time? Find out how those that do it well do it and find out why those that fail miss the point.

Facilitated By:
Andrew McMillen - Freelance Journalist (AUS)

Part music critic, part culture analyst, part media researcher and all music fan, Andrew's enthusiasm is a refreshing tonic to jaded sonic cynicism. Rather than pretending to know the answers to the music industry's problem, Andrew's journalistic approach asks questions that help the changing industry better understand itself. Andrew writes for Rave Magazine, Mess+Noise, FourThousand, and his blog (http://andrewmcmillen.com). He's also a columnist for The Music Network, and he formerly contributed irregularly to FasterLouder.

Speakers:
Elliot Aronow - Rcrdlbl.com (USA)

In November of 2007, Elliot Aronow co-founded the world's first ad-supported online music label/blog network, RCRD LBL and Downtown Records where he works as the Creative Director and VP of A and R. Following his graduation from the Princeton Record Exchange (and Rutgers University) in 2002, Aronow quickly hustled his way into a gig at the internationally-distributed music and lifestyle magazine the FADER at the age of 22. While writing and editing for the FADER, Aronow provided vital early coverage to the movers and shakers in the bustling music scene in NYC, as well as abroad in Europe and Canada.

Jakomi Matthews - The Music Void (GBR)

Jakomi is a digital music and media leader with an executive career at some of the UK’s most successful and innovative music-mobile-media initiatives and has access to an impeccable network of the worlds industry leaders and innovators. Most recently, he launched his blog www.themusicvoid.com along the way attracting a lot of industry respect due to the blog’s unbiased yet straight talking in-depth analysis. Jakomi has held the position of the Business Strategy and Development Director at Oplayo Oy, a Finnish based horizontally integrated mobile solutions company.

Cameron Smith - Before Hollywood (AUS)

After moving to Brisbane in 2001 to begin his higher education, Cameron Smith became interested in the city's local music scene. As with many country kids who have moved to the big smoke over the years, he was specifically drawn towards the more independent and 'underground' aspects of the music community. In the ensuing period he has been a part of a myriad of bands, organised and promoted many (small) shows, and begun a small recording studio to provide local musicians with an inexpensive method of documenting their music.

Jerry Soer - WhoTheHell.net (AUS)

In 2006 Jerry Soer with Dom Alessio started Who The Bloody Hell Are They?, a music blog that aims to catalog the Australian music scene, one band at a time. The website now has over 1000 posts covering most bands and genres that has come and gone and prosper in that timeframe, championing artists such as Empire Of The Sun, The Middle East, Dappled Cities and Lisa Mitchell. When he’s not out looking for new bands to blog, Jerry also manages artists such as Miami Horror, Young and Restless, Parades, Cassian, Beaufort and Ooh-Ee.

Everett True - Freelance Journalist (AUS)

Everett True is currently a PhD student at QUT in Brisbane. He used to edit Melody Maker, VOX, Careless Talks Costs Lives and Plan B in the UK. He has written for more rock publications than most people can name. Nick Cave once called one of his live performances, "More entertaining than Nina Simone". He is the author of several books on rock music featuring Nirvana, Ramones, White Stripes and others. He writes a music blog over at www.everetttrue.wordpress.com. Karen O called him "the coolest man in England".
