Celebrating 5 years in 2010, Q Song has grown to be one of the premier events on the QLD music industry calendar. With Queensland music continuing to make its mark both nationally and internationally, Q Song provides a platform for up and coming songwriters to share in $35 000 in cash and prizes and build their profile.

Dreaming Festival Announces New Program Director

 The Queensland Folk Federation is pleased to announce the appointment of Sam Cook as Programming Director of The Dreaming festival, Australia's International Indigenous festival. Sam's vision is to continue moving The Dreaming festival forward from the foundations and programme direction created by the Queensland Folk Federation and previous Artistic Director Rhoda Roberts.

UQ School of Psychology Seeks Participants in Online Study on Musicians' Wellbeing

The University of Queensland's School of Psychology is currently calling for musicians to complete an online survey aimed at gaining an understanding of musicians' experiences of work and how these experiences affect their health, well-being, and attitudes toward work. Musicians over 18 years of age, earning an income from their work, with over 6 months experience are invited to take part in the 20-30minute online survey.

Arts Queensland to Fund Artists to Attend Song Summit 2010

Following the success of the inaugural Song Summit in 2009, APRA | AMCOS and Events NSW are proud to present Song Summit 2010, 19-21 June at the Sydney Convention Exhibition Centre. Arts Queensland will support ten Queensland artists to attend Song Summit 2010. Applications will open 1 April through Q Music.

Q Music Congratulates Finalists in 2009 International Songwriting Competition

Q Music extends its congratulations to the healthy Queensland contingent of finalists in the 2009 International Songwriting Competition. Winners for the 2009 competition will be announced in April, 2010, deciding the recipients of over $150, 000 in cash and prizes.

Queenslanders Represent in Musicoz Finals

Finalists have been decided for the 2010 National Musicoz Songwriting Awards. A special congratulations goes to the Queensland artists making it to the finals. Covering 18 genres of music with over 5000 entries each year. The Musicoz Awards give vital recognition, exposure to a national audience, as well as development opportunities to finalists and winners.

QueenslandLockedOut to Lead Protest Against Potential Earlier Venue Lockout & Shutdown Policies in Queensland

In August 2009, the Queensland Parliament called upon the Law, Justice and Safety Committee to conduct an inquiry into alcohol related violence in Queensland, with a focus on community safety and preventative measures to reduce the level of alcohol related violence, and its ramifications. One consideration in the ongoing inquiry is the impact of late opening hours on incidences of alcohol related violence. QueenslandLockedOut appeals to the community to come together in opposition to Parliament legislating an earlier lockout and shutdown policy for Queensland venues.

Queensland Artists to Showcase on 612 ABC Brisbane Radio

 612 ABC Brisbane radio continues to turn the spotlight on to Queensland’s finest songwriters throughout 2010. From March 24, some of the State’s best artists will drop in to Richard Fidler’s ‘Conversation Hour’ every Wednesday to perform live at 1.45pm. So, tune in each Wednesday afternoon for a dose of local musical inspiration.

Q Music and Brisbane Powerhouse Present Metro Workshop Series April 2010

Q Music is thrilled to announce the first of its FREE Workshop series for 2010 in partnership with the Brisbane Powerhouse. This year will see Q Music and the Brisbane Powerhouse join forces to deliver two series of music industry professional development workshops, with the first series starting in April. All workshops are FREE and will be held on the Turbine Platform.

Unsigned Australian Artists Now Eligible for Inclusion in AMRAP's AirIT Program

 The Australian Music Radio Airplay Project (AMRAP) has announced stage two of its AirIT initiative at the Adelaide Fuse Festival. AirIT is community radio’s exclusive catalogue of Australian music, provided free by Amrap for both the sector and the music industry. The stage two roll out gives all unsigned Australian artists eligibility to apply for AirIT.

Submissions Open for 2010 Grant McLennan Fellowship

Premier and Arts Minister Anna Bligh has announced the opening of the $20,000 Grant McLennan Fellowship for 2010, and encouraged the state's contemporary musicians to apply. The Fellowship offers the recipient an opportunity to travel to New York, London or Berlin and use the experience of being immersed in a foreign and vibrant musical cultural to further develop their own artistic skills. Entries for 2010 close 31 March 2010.
