NIMAs Open Nominations & Announce Album

Nominations are now open for any Indigenous artists from Australia and the Torres Strait for the 14th annual National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs) coming up in August this year. In addition to the ceremony itself, the NIMAs have also announced their first ever CD collection of Indigenous music.

Held annually under the stars at Darwin’s historic Amphitheatre, the NIMAs bring audiences from all over Australia together to recognise and celebrate achievement within the Indigenous music industry.

After a year that saw a historic win for A.B. Original at the Australian Music Prize ceremony, #1 ARIA results for Jessica Mauboy and Busby Marou, Troy Cassar-Daley nabbing the Album Of The Year Golden Guitar in Tamworth and the meteoric ascent of young Queensland Music Award recipient Tia Gostelow, the 2017 NIMAs promises to be unlike any other on the national music calendar.

In collaboration with Warner Music Australia, the team behind the NIMAs have also created the National Indigenous Music Awards CD, coming in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the national referendum to recognise Indigenous people. The album will be a two-CD set that celebrates both contemporary and "all-time" favourites.

This year's NIMAs event will be held on Saturday 12 August.
