Local Songwriters Storm into ISC Finals

Two Queensland songwriters have earned their place amongst the finalists in the prestigious International Songwriting Competition (ISC) for 2016. Queensland Music Awards 2017 finalist Josh Rennie-Hynes and Brisbane bluesman Asa Broomhall are nominated in the Country and Blues categories respectively.

Based in the USA, the ISC has been heralded as "the songwriting competition to take note of" by the New York Times. The competition gives away more than US$150,000 in cash and prizes, including a Grand Prize to the value of US$25,000.

Australia has a history of success in the competition, with Vance Joy having taken out the grand prize in 2014. Other previous Aussie winners include Gotye, Missy Higgins, Matt Corby, Kasey Chambers, Flight Facilities, Augie March, Guy Sebastian, Sarah Blasko, Troy Cassar-Daley, Kate Miller-Heidke, Jebediah and many more.

Gold Coast Artist Nominated for Zone Music Reporter Awards

QMusic congratulates Gold Coast composer, producer and studio performer Jim Ottaway on his recent nominations for the upcoming Zone Music Reporter (ZMR) Awards on May 13 in New Orleans.

Two of his albums have been nominated in the ZMR Awards, the industry source for New Age, World, Ambient, Electronic, Solo Piano, Relaxation, Instrumental and other genres of music based in the US:

  • Southern Cross in the Best Ambient Album category
  • Invisible Vortex in the Best Chill/Groove Album category

This is Jim’s first ever nomination in this particular awards ceremony, but his album 'Southern Cross' was awarded a Silver Medal at the Global Music Awards in 2016 and 'Invisible Vortex' peaked at #1 on the One World Music Radio Top 100 Chart for two months during 2016.

Brisbane Metalheads Sign US Label Deal

Announced today via The Music Brisbane metal outfit As Paradise Falls have signed an exclusive worldwide deal with US label Eclipse Records. The news comes ahead of the release of their debut album.
