Brisbane Community Cup Back For 2017

Reclink Australia is thrilled to announce the return of the most talked about iconic event on the community calendar – The Reclink Community Cup, is coming to the ‘Streets of Your Town’ in Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Hobart and Perth.

Drawing on the song title by indie rock band The Go-Betweens this year’s theme ‘Streets of Your Town’ will be celebrated by each host city with their own unique enthusiasm and style. With humble beginnings that steadily grew to a highly successful regular event on the Melbourne’s annual calendar, the Community Cups’ achievements are now being replicated around the country. Once again, community radio stations and local media in each state will join together to go head to head with local musicians in what is a family friendly, entertaining day of grassroots football and live music both on and off the field.

With footy at the helm of the Cup, the event is just as renowned for its incredible bill of preshow, halftime, and post match bands, with performances from some of the nation’s most beloved artists for both the little and big kids alike. Stay tuned for each states’ individual lineup announcements soon!

The Brisbane leg of the event will take place at Leyshon Park, Yeronga on July 30, featuring players from a vast array of Brisbane bands pitted against a motley ensemble of 4ZZZ stalwarts, music industry insiders, street press staff and many more music-related professions. Training has already begun for the Rocking Horses (musicians) against the media's Brisbane Lines for the friendly match. 2017 is rumoured to see the return Queensland upper house members Senator Murray Watt and Senator Anthony Chisholm will don the boots for the Rocking Horses and the Brisbane Lines respectively.

“We are delighted to once again work with our talented Organising Committees across Australia to bring the Reclink Community Cup to the streets of your town. This year’s theme is all about community, the importance of social inclusion, celebrating diversity and community belonging. We are reminded that the streets of your town are the streets of our town.” said John Ballis, CEO, Reclink Australia.

This year the Reclink Community Cup also welcomes a new national event sponsor Blundstone Australia, who are delighted and proud to be involved as a national partner: “The partnership with the Reclink Community Cup is a great fit for the homegrown, iconic brand Blundstone and leverages our support of Australian sports, music and arts for a good cause. We’re excited to kick off the National Tour and wish all the teams the best with their training,” said Adam Blake, Blundstone Global Head - Brand, Design and Community Engagement.

Most importantly, funds raised through the Reclink Community Cups support Reclink Australia’s work with disadvantaged communities across Australia. From its inception back in 1993, the Melbourne event now rallies more than 10,000 avid followers who collectively raise over $100,000 every year for the cause.

Supported by loyal volunteers, funds raised help provide programs for some of the community’s most disadvantaged members. Reclink Australia delivers specialist sport, recreation and arts programs for at-risk youth, people with mental illness or disability, people experiencing homelessness and domestic violence, and those facing alcohol, gambling and substance addictions. So brave the cold, and get amongst it this winter, it’s sure to be a cracking day!
