Heading to Great Escape Festival!

QMusic extends huge congratulations to the Queensland artists that have been selected to showcase at The Great Escape festival in 2017. Taking place in Brighton spread over 3 days starting on May 18th, this year’s festival will feature over 500 musicians. Three lucky QLD acts - Confidence Man, Gabriella Cohen and The Goon Sax - have been selected to feature at this year’s event.  All three acts will perform in one of the 30+ walkable venues across the city.

Confidence Man, the union of some of Brisbane’s faves (Jungle Giants, The Belligerents and Moses Gunn Collective), have gone from strength to strength since the release of their first single ‘Boyfriend (Repeat)’ in 2016.  The band has smashed two national tours for ‘Boyfriend (Repeat)’ and their new release ‘Bubblegum’, appeared in multiple festivals like Golden Plains and St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, as well as scoring a win for their first single at the Queensland Music Award 2017 in the Electronic/Dance category. The Great Escape won’t even be their only international appearance with a performance scheduled at the OpenAir St.Gallen festival in Switzerland in July.

Former Brisbane based songwriter, Gabriella Cohen (The Furrs) emerged with a striking and infectious debut single, “I Don’t Feel So Alive’, which received overnight praise from Hilly Dilly and Triple J Unearthed. Coming off the back off a wild BIGSOUND show in 2015, Cohen went onto record and self-produce a 10-track album, ‘Full Closure and No Details’, which was released at the end of 2016. Cohen has cemented herself as a unique songwriter, mixing eclectic pop with honest lyricism to create an infectious sound. She just finished off a tour in the US and is about to start a new tour throughout Europe.

The Goon Sax are an indie pop trio from Brisbane, consisting of Riley Jones, Louis Forster and James Harrison. The Goon Sax played their first non-house-party show at the Zoo in June 2014, and have since played with Twerps, Blank Realm, US Girls, Crayon Fields and others. Their debut album Up To Anything was released on Chapter Music in March 2016 and was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2017 Queensland Music Awards. The band will continue to tour throughout the UK and Europe (where they will be relocating) after their appearance at The Great Escape, the three-piece played their farewell show in Brisbane last month.
