Little BIGSOUND is just around the corner, taking place Saturday 29 July! Boasting a huge lineup of speakers and artists including Airling and The Kite String Tangle, if you're under 25 years old and serious about a career in music you NEED to be at Little BIGSOUND.

Hosted by State Library of Queensland (SLQ) at The Edge, Little BIGSOUND is a specially curated platform for young people to connect, gain real life skills, meet industry experts and discover their local music scene. Produced by QMusic, the team behind BIGSOUND, the southern hemisphere’s biggest music industry gathering and festival of new music.

In just 18 months, electro-soul artist Airling (Hannah Shepherd) has captured the hearts of music lovers and tastemakers across the country. Anyone looking to get started in the music industry will be inspired by Hannah’s journey from a local youth creative to becoming a triple j featured artist, playing major festivals and touring nationally.

Budding artists and producers wondering how an ARIA nominated song is written will be treated to a song breakdown session with producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist, Danny Harley aka The Kite String Tangle. Danny has twice landed in triple j’s Hottest 100’s Top 20 while reaching Gold record sales in Australia. These days he’s also a record label founder, promoting and developing other young electronic artists’ careers (such as Golden Vessel and LASTLINGS).

Weighing in on her own personal insights, Mackay’s rising teenage songstress Tia Gostelow (triple j Unearthed High and multi-Queensland Music Award winner) will sit alongside Dew Process’s A&R executive, John Mullen (Bernard Fanning, Tkay Maidza), and record producer Konstantin Kersting (The Belligerents, The Jungle Giants) covering all angles of the songwriting process, in yet another exciting session to choose from throughout the action-packed day.

In a first for Little BIGSOUND, the revamped program allows attendees to select from a variety of sessions between 10am – 4pm, utilising SLQ’s state of the art facilities. The Edge’s Digital Media Lab will transform into The Ableton Live studio; where attendees can get hands-on and make music using the next generation of production software and live instrumentation. Excitingly, the Recording Studio will feature the KORG History of Synths, an interactive installation, taking attendees through the evolution and history of the synthesizer.

Getting down to business, The Edge’s Innovation Lab, will host interactive sessions covering digital marketing and publicity with Title Track PR’s Sarah Chipman (Sticky Fingers, Crystal Castles) and Comes With Fries founder Vanessa Picken (The Cat Empire, The Jezabels). Aspiring and practicing artists, managers, label owners and publicists wanting to know how to plan a release from start to finish, can jump in on the Circle Of Life session in the Auditorium with Mucho Bravado’s Ben Preece (WAAX, I Know Leopard). Serious about starting a music business? Julia Bridger (BLEACH Festival, The FarmHouse) and the QMusic team will provide insights on sustainability, structure and income streams to help build your empire.

It’s a two-way street and industry attendees are eager to meet the next generation of emerging artists at Little BIGSOUND. Facilitated through Round Table Sessions in the Window Bays intimate groups will get meet-and-greet time with local venue & festival booking agents, publicists and artist managers to help participants get their first gigs, publicise their music and build the relationships needed to work in the music industry.

“Little BIGSOUND gives youth creatives a unique opportunity to meet, create and learn,” said QMusic Program Manager, Trina Massey. “Participating will give you the opportunity to become the future of music.”

As the sun goes down, Little BIGSOUND will culminate with a free all-ages gig headlined by a secret act to be revealed via the Little BIGSOUND Facebook page. Little BIGSOUND organisers are very pleased to announce, from a stack of showcase applications received, Asha Jefferies, Ruby Gilbert, TØBI and Twelve Past Midnight have been chosen to perform live throughout the day.
