About Q Song

Over the past 50 years, Queensland has produced some of the finest songwriters not only in this country, but the world. From Keith Urban to Grant McLennan, The Grates and Powderfinger, to up and comers The Gin Club, The John Steel Singers and Kate Bradley, Queensland’s music stands tall on the world stage.

Proudly supported by Q Music, The Courier-Mail, 612 ABC Brisbane and ABC Local Radio Queensland, Q Song is a state-wide search for our best and most innovative songwriters.

Awards are up for grabs across the competition’s 22 categories, covering everything from Rock and Pop to Jazz, Blues and Roots, Urban, Dance/Electronic, Alternative, Country, Folk Ballad, World, Punk, Primary and Secondary Schools, and more.

Q Song is open to all unpublished songwriters, with the winner of each category going into the running to collect the Song of the Year Award.

Over the past four years, Q Song has attracted more than 6000 entries from across the state, with 2009’s Awards receiving a record 2,135 entries. Q Song has grown to be the largest awards ceremony of its kind in Queensland.

Q Song is an initiative of the Queensland Music Network Inc – Queensland’s leading contemporary music office for more than a decade.
