Merry Christmas from the QMusic team! Thanks to everyone in the Queensland music industry for making their own personal contribution to the future of our community.
2018 was a year of consolidation for our organisation, as we spread our wings into new places and spaces across Queensland. We made a lot of new friends in Winton, Toowoomba, Ipswich, Gladstone, Mackay and Logan, and continued to deliver our Industry Connect program in Brisbane, Cairns, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. It was great to see so many new and old faces from near and far at our recent Christmas get together. The growth of the QMusic family is a great source of pride and joy for everyone in our organisation. Thanks especially to everyone who in some way donated their time or financial resources to supporting the growth of the sector in 2019.
BIGSOUND 2018 was a success of reassuring proportions, in the sense that significant rain did not deter the public from showing up in droves to support the future of Australian music. We tried a lot of new things with the conference this year, in an attempt to begin a process of giving all delegates the chance to make a greater contribution to the conversation. Our newly expanded BIGSOUND programming team are studying the results of those changes to further refine and improve the 2019 experience.
Speaking of growth and change, it’s well known now that a number of QMusic staff, including myself, are moving on in the coming months. There’s no planning for the timing of new opportunities or family needs or the need for new experiences, and in our case this has happened for a number of us all at once! Working at QMusic is a life changing experience and we are all so grateful for the opportunity. I know the QMusic board is very excited to unveil the next generation of people who will continue to evolve the way we service the industry, and build further on the 24-year tradition of excellence that has been established by those who have come before.
I look forward to seeing you at a gig soon! Best wishes to you and your loved ones this Christmas.
The QMusic office will be closed from Friday December 21, 2018 and reopen on Monday January 7, 2019.
