I Heart Songwriting Club is helping to close the gender gap in the music industry, with a huge 76% female membership in Australia. Given the latest APRA research of female registered songwriters being only 21%, the difference is staggering.
Director and Founder of I Heart Songwriting Club, Francesca de Valence believes this difference is due to the supportive, safe and inclusive online community that I Heart Songwriting Club provides songwriters.
A global digital powerhouse for songwriting creatives founded in Brisbane in 2014, I Heart Songwriting Club has helped generate over 6000 songs from 12 countries, many of which have made waves in the national and international music scene.
WA songwriter and ARIA-nominated artist Mama Kin joined I Heart Songwriting Club in 2016 along with her friend Victorian songwriter, Tommy Spender. After spending two ten-week terms together in the club, they had so much material they made an album together. 80% of their album, Golden Magnetic, was written as part of I Heart Songwriting Club’s 1-hour weekly songwriting challenges. Mama Kin Spender are now touring their album with John Butler Trio on a 26-date tour of USA and Canada.
Brisbane songwriter Emma Dean, recently in the spotlight singing at the opening ceremony of the 2018 Commonwealth Games and a long-time member of I Heart Songwriting Club, wrote many of the songs from her cabaret show Broken Romantics Unite in the club. The show is included in the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe Festival program.
I Heart Songwriting Club’s tech platform is innovative and a game-changer in the global music market for creatives proving it can successfully include hit-songwriters and first-time songwriters in the same online community supporting each other. I Heart Songwriting Club is not about excellence but about creative practice.
Members could be sharing the same group as UK charting sensation Riva Taylor, Mushroom Music songwriter and Aussie darling Helen Shanahan, or BMG Australian touring legend Sam Buckingham who all use I Heart Songwriting Club for their weekly songwriting practice. Or members could be sharing with emerging artists including Australian regional songwriter Laudy whose debut single Lioness written in I Heart Songwriting Club is currently sitting at no.14 in the Triple J Unearthed Chart.
I Heart Songwriting Club is also used to support music mentoring programs by educational organisations throughout Australia. A recent partnership with Sugarrush Music in conjunction with Big Sky Girls songwriting mentorship program, uses the I Heart Songwriting Club platform to reach out to young regional QLD female songwriters, allowing creative collaboration and mentorship.
The last weekend of July is a big weekend for I Heart Songwriting Club with a host of exciting, inclusive activities in Brisbane for songwriters of all levels featuring members from Melbourne, Sydney, Byron Bay, Kingaroy and Brisbane. Most of the events are open to the public and are free.
