In a statement released on Friday 6 August, live music and entertainment industry bodies APRA AMCOS, ARIA, PPCA, Live Performance Australia, Live Entertainment Industry Forum and the Australian Festival Association called for the adoption of a government-backed insurance scheme to provide certainty for the Australian live music and entertainment sector.
Following a letter to QMusic members earlier this week acknowledging that the music industry has reached a crisis point, QMusic CEO, Kris Stewart said the peak music industry body is in full support of the proposed UK-style scheme in which government guarantees policies issued by commercial insurers to live events that are open to the general public, including festivals and business events.
"The main thing our sector needs as it looks to come out of COVID is certainty – it’s far too high risk for artists and promoters to proceed when shows can be cancelled at a moment’s notice," he said.
"We need some kind of safety net if we’re going to see the industry re-open post-pandemic."
