triple j Unearthed BIGSOUND Winners Announced!

Chorus queen Austen and and 2018 Billy Thorpe Scholarship Finalist Keelan Mak have been revealed as this year's triple j Unearthed BIGSOUND Competition winners!

The two up and coming acts will take to the triple j Unearthed Stage hosted this year at newly announced BIGSOUND venue Famous Nightclub. They'll join the likes of G Flip and Kwame not to mention the rest of the 150 acts who'll be tearing it up around Fortitude Valley over the course of the festival from 4 - 7 September.

Austen

Blending alternative writing roots with spacious synths, Austen's hook-laden art pop creates a sonic atmosphere housing a writing style that plays between introspective and surreal. Her first two independent single releases saw her take to the stage in support of electro pop mainstays Nicole Millar, KLP, Running Touch, Just A Gent, featuring with collaborator Kuren at 2017’s Splendour in the Grass, and most recently joining The Kite String Tangle as support on his national album tour.

Earning herself a place in various "Artists To Watch" lists (inthemix, Pilerats, Purple Sneakers) and a premiere on Red Bull Music, her Spotify discography has amassed well over half a million plays and seen the young artist work with some of Australia’s biggest names in electronic pop. With two acclaimed singles, multiple collaborations, and a national tour under her belt already, Austen is one of the most promising rising voices of her kind.

Keelan Mak

There’s a light and shade to Keelan Mak - a push and pull between melancholy and enlightenment, breaking through into a dark and haunting place. An ethereal dreamscape, where song is melded with consciousness in Mak's fragile form of expression. Smooth velvet vocal pushing through rich production inviting you in, to then fall down the rabbit hole that is Mak's imagination. Each sound adds to the dry and barren atmosphere where nothing is lost, instead, building on the fire of a slow burning groove.

Emerging from Brisbane, Mak’s music is a smoky, sultry mixture of the inner-city. Inspired by the art and artists that make up this fast-paced and evolving metropolis, which can be heard in Mak's captivating blend of indie electronica. Keelan Mak will transport you to places rarely visited but that will quickly become your addiction.
