QMusic Announces Board Transition as Organisation Enters New Chapter

A message from Viv Mellish

Dear QMusic Members,

I’m writing to share several upcoming changes to the QMusic Board in preparation for our important new chapter as an organisation.

As you know, QMusic is transitioning from an incorporated association to a company limited by guarantee as voted by our members in June 2025. In line with our new Constitution, the Board is required to reduce its size. As a result, Cameron Costello and Kristy Gostelow have stepped down from the Board.

Cam has brought exceptional wisdom and generosity during his time on the Board. We have been incredibly fortunate to benefit from his perspective on First Nations matters, tourism, government relations, and broader strategic issues as QMusic navigated both challenges and opportunities.

Kristy has made a meaningful contribution through her extensive board and artist management experience, while also bringing an important regional Queensland perspective to our discussions. Her insight and commitment to the sector have been greatly valued.

In addition, our Vice President, Maggie Collins, will step down once the company transition is complete. Maggie has recently moved interstate and is focusing more on her family; her departure is not related to Board size requirements. Maggie has been an outstanding national representative for QMusic and a guiding light for our Industry Subcommittee, contributing deep programming experience and strategic leadership.

I hope you will join me in sincerely thanking Cam, Kristy, and Maggie for their service and generosity. QMusic is stronger for their involvement.

I'm also writing today to advise that I will be stepping down as President and Chair of QMusic. QMusic is incredibly close to my heart, and it has been a privilege to serve in this role and to volunteer in support of Queensland’s music industry. This decision allows me to focus more fully on my growing business and my family, however as a passionate industry leader I will remain on the Board as an ordinary member.

During my time on the Board, I am proud of what we have achieved together - including helping establish the Queensland Parliamentary Friends of the Music Industry, guiding QMusic through an important organisational review, and contributing to the most successful BIGSOUND events to date. With increased regional investment, strong governance, and an exceptional team led by Kris, Michelle, Sarah, Fran, Hannah, Katlin, Anthea, Lucy, Eddie and colleagues, QMusic is in an excellent position to continue advocating for and supporting our industry.

I’m very pleased to confirm that the Board has appointed current Board member Jake Challenor as Acting President. Jake is a highly respected advocate for our industry, with deep global insight and experience, and is ideally placed to lead QMusic into this next era.

Thank you for your continued support of QMusic and the Queensland music community. I look forward to continuing to contribute to our success by supporting Jake and the Board as QMusic moves forward.

Warm regards,

Viv Mellish
Outgoing President QMUSIC

As a peak body we also acknowledge the important role that music has played and continues to play on these lands since the very first sunrise.
